Interlude Leveling Guide 1-80: Zones, Gates and the 76+ Wall

Level 80 in Interlude costs roughly 4.2 billion cumulative EXP, and about 78% of that sits in the last four levels. That single fact drives every choice in this Interlude leveling guide: which zone you sit in, when you move, whether you box a buffer, and what server rates you can actually tolerate. Chronicle 6 has no Vitality, no Kamaloka instances, no rested-EXP catch-up. You get the raw curve, a level-difference penalty that punishes overleveling, and three class-transfer gates to plan around.
The curve is back-loaded, and badly
Most people read "1 to 80" as one long climb. It is a short climb followed by a cliff.
| Level | Cumulative EXP | What happens here |
|---|---|---|
| 40 | ~15.4M | Second class transfer |
| 52 | ~51.2M | Cruma Tower bracket ends |
| 61 | ~146M | A-grade becomes the norm |
| 76 | ~931M | Third class transfer |
| 79 | ~2.10B | The last real wall starts |
| 80 | ~4.2B | Cap |
Look at the last two rows. Going from 79 to 80 costs about 2.1 billion EXP on its own, which is roughly what levels 1 through 79 cost put together. When someone tells you they hit 80 in a weekend, they are describing the server's rates, not their play.

Three gates: level 20, 40 and 76
Your build unlocks in three steps, and two of them cost real time.
- Level 20, first transfer. Quick and cheap. Do it the moment you ding, because the skills change how fast the next twenty levels go.
- Level 40, second transfer. The quest chain opens in three parts. "Trial of..." at 35, "Testimony of..." at 37, "Test of..." at 39, and it completes at 40. It is long and it drags you across half the map. Most servers also let you pay a class master to skip it, commonly around 900k adena for the short route and up to roughly 3 million for the longer options.
- Level 76, third transfer. The "Saga of..." line, the longest quest most players ever finish in Interlude. It pays 5,000,000 adena plus a Secret Book of Giants, so it is not just a formality.
On x15 rates and up, pay the adena at 40 and keep grinding. On x1 to x5, do the Testimony chain instead. Early adena is scarcer than your hours at that stage.
The zone ladder that actually works
Every honest Interlude route converges on more or less the same list. Move on once you are 5 levels above the mobs, because at 6 the EXP falls off a cliff.
- 1-15: starter village mobs and the repeatable newbie quests.
- 15-21: Ruins of Despair and Ruins of Agony near Gludio.
- 21-30: Abandoned Camp, Necropolis of Sacrifice, Execution Grounds.
- 30-40: Partisan's Hideaway, Fields of Silence and Fields of Whispers, Cruma Marshlands.
- 40-52: Cruma Tower, the bracket everyone remembers. Sea of Spores, Alligator Island and Enchanted Valley cover the same range when the tower is packed.
- 52-61: Tanor Canyon, Blazing Swamp, Forest of Mirrors.
- 61-70: Tower of Insolence and Hot Springs. Bring A-grade or you will spend the session running back.
- 70-76: Wall of Argos, Varka Silenos Barracks, Ketra Orc Outpost.

Level difference and party size beat gear
Interlude scales EXP by the gap between you and the mob. Within 5 levels you get everything. At 6 to 9 levels you get about 30%. At 10 or more you get nothing at all, no matter how fast you kill.
The same logic hits raid drops from the other side. If the top contributor sits 3 or more levels above the boss, drop chance starts falling, and at 9 levels above there are no items and no adena. Farming low raids on a level 80 character wastes the spawn.
Party bonuses are smaller than people assume. Two members multiply EXP by 1.30, three by 1.39, four by 1.50, five by 1.54, six by 1.58, seven by 1.63, eight by 1.65 and nine by 1.67. A full party is only 67% more raw EXP. The real gain is what a party lets you do: mage AoE trains, constant buff uptime, a healer who keeps the pull alive. A tight two-box setup with a Prophet often out-levels a random five-man that never stops dying.
Catacombs and Necropolises give EXP, not income
The Seven Signs zones are level-banded and built for exactly one purpose.
- Catacomb of the Branded and Worshipers Necropolis: 40 to 50.
- Catacomb of the Apostate and Patriots Necropolis: 50 to 60.
- Catacomb of the Witch and Ascetics Necropolis: 60 to 70.
The Lilim and Nephilim inside drop Seal Stones, not adena. The EXP is dense and the income is zero. Alternate catacomb sessions with an adena zone like Cruma or Alligator Island, or you will arrive at 61 with nothing in the bank right when A-grade prices show up.
76 to 80 is a different game
Hot Springs diseases are farmed on purpose
The level 73 to 76 mobs in Hot Springs (Bandersnatch, Atrox, Flava, Nepenthes) apply "diseases" that are really stat boosts. Flu adds up to about 16% attack speed. Malaria adds roughly 16% casting speed with a Clarity-like effect on MP. Rheumatism adds up to around 100 fixed critical rate, and Cholera adds up to 10 accuracy. Each has four levels and runs for an hour. They carry tradeoffs, which is why the springs and ponds around the zone cancel specific ones. Melee stack Flu and Rheumatism, casters chase Malaria, then everyone leaves and grinds elsewhere with the timer running.
Ketra or Varka, and you pick once
The "Alliance with Ketra Orcs" and "Alliance with Varka Silenos" chains both grant reputation ranks 1 through 5, which open the deeper mobs and the faction rings. Siding with one turns the other permanently hostile. Decide before you start the 70-76 grind, and decide with your clan, because you do not want half the party locked out of the camp everyone farms.
Where the last four levels come from
Forge of the Gods is where most 76+ players end up, and it works through AoE trains that need a real group. Monastery of Silence, Imperial Tomb and the Dragon Valley caves fill the rest. This is S-grade territory. Solo, Ketra and Varka stay workable with a boxed buffer, just slower. Nothing here carries you, which is why 76-80 is where most Interlude characters quietly stop.
Subclass at 75, Noblesse after that
At 75 the subclass road opens. Finish Fate's Whisper, the Star of Destiny line, then Mimir's Elixir. Subclasses cap at level 75 and you can hold three. Noblesse needs a level 75 subclass plus the "Possessor of a Precious Soul" chain, which ends on Flame of Splendor Barakiel, a level 70 raid boss in the Valley of Saints near Rune. Only the party that lands the killing blow gets the Staff of Goddess Song. On any populated server Barakiel is contested, so bring numbers or bring patience.
How long 1-80 takes on your server
With no catch-up mechanic, the calendar is a straight function of rates, party quality and buffer uptime. On a retail-like x1, 1-80 is a project measured in months of steady play, and plenty of people never finish. Mid-rate servers around x10 to x25 put 80 within a few weeks if you have a group. High-rate x50 and above compress the first 76 levels into days, and then the last four still take longer than everything before them.
That is why many Interlude servers run stepped or dynamic rates that drop after 76. Read the rate line on a listing carefully, because "x50" often means x50 up to 76 and something much lower after. Check the dual-box policy too. A Prophet, Elven Elder or Shillien Elder on a second client changes your speed more than any zone choice in this guide.
When you are ready to pick one, browse the Interlude servers opening soon on L2Calendar, compare XP and SP rates side by side, and look at the wipe history before you sink a month into it. If you are open to other chronicles, the full server list is there too.
